A view of the posterior muscular system.

Artwork gives clear identification of the muscles and this is the posterior view version of our series of two Muscular System artworks; click here to view the anterior version. The muscular system is composed of specialised cells called muscle fibres. Their predominant function is contractibility. Muscles, attached to bones or internal organs and blood vessels, are responsible for movement. Nearly all movement in the body is the result of muscle contraction.
