Smiling depression describes a situation many people recognise: someone may appear happy, confident and in control on the outside while silently struggling with depression on the inside. The smile remains visible, but the emotional burden stays hidden. This Care Statement poster highlights a simple but powerful idea: hiding depression often means carrying it alone. When struggles remain invisible, it becomes harder for others to recognise that support may be needed.

Displayed in clinics, consultation rooms or wellness spaces, the poster invites reflection without judgement. The message does not accuse or instruct. Instead, it gently encourages openness and reminds viewers that mental health challenges do not always look the way we expect.
