One of the central ideas in chiropractic care is simple: when interference within the nervous system is reduced, the body is better able to regulate, repair and heal itself. The goal of chiropractic adjustments is not to “fix” the body directly, but to remove restrictions that may prevent the body from functioning as efficiently as it should.
This concept has long been expressed within the chiropractic profession. B.J. Palmer, one of the early developers of chiropractic, famously summarised the idea with the phrase: “The power that made the body heals the body.” The statement reflects the core principle that the body possesses remarkable self-regulating and self-healing abilities when its systems are allowed to function without interference.
Chiropractic care focuses on restoring healthy movement within the musculoskeletal system and supporting optimal spinal and joint function. By addressing restrictions in joints and surrounding tissues, chiropractic adjustments may help the nervous system communicate more effectively with the rest of the body, supporting natural healing processes and overall physical function.
