Few statements capture the philosophy of chiropractic as clearly as this well-known quote by B. J. Palmer. Often referred to as the “Developer of Chiropractic,” Palmer emphasised the remarkable ability of the human body to regulate, adapt and heal when its systems are able to function without unnecessary interference.

Chiropractic care is built on this principle. The goal of chiropractic adjustments is not to “add” healing to the body, but to help remove mechanical restrictions that may interfere with normal communication between the spine, the nervous system and the rest of the body. When joint movement improves and the nervous system functions more efficiently, the body is often better able to carry out its natural processes of regulation and recovery.
