What’s Cranial Bones?
The anterior and lateral cranial bones include the frontal, nasal, lacrimal, inferior nasal conchae, zygomatic, and maxillary bones. These bones form the anterior (front) and lateral (side) portions of the skull. The frontal bone forms the forehead and upper eye sockets, while the nasal bones form the bridge of the nose. The lacrimal bones are located in the medial (inner) aspect of the eye sockets, while the inferior nasal conchae are curved bones that help warm and humidify the air we breathe. The zygomatic bones are cheekbones that provide a base for the temporalis and masseter muscles. The maxillary bones form the lower portions of the orbits (eye sockets), palates, and cheeks.
