Autonomic Nervous System
The autonomic nervous system is responsible for regulating involuntary bodily functions such as heart rate, digestion, respiration, and blood pressure. It consists of two divisions, the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems, which work together to maintain homeostasis in the body. Clearly visualised on this ANS artwork, is how the sympathetic division is associated with the body’s “fight or flight” response, while the parasympathetic division is responsible for promoting relaxation and restoring the body to a state of rest.
